Project Zero Waste.

OCEAA won a grant from 'Project Zero Waste' to help keep trash out of landfills. They are supplying OCEAA with a variety of art-making tools such as heavy-duty scissors, glue guns, tacky glue, large paintbrushes, etc. These tools will help OCEAA students create art out of trash materials.

What we need from you are your trash materials. Please click the 'Make Art' bags below for a list of items we need to make treasure from trash!

Proyecto Cero Basura.

OCEAA Teachers Pilot Arts Curriculum.

Arts Advantage, in collaboration with Helena Hanna from The CA Arts Project, worked with teachers from throughout Orange County to write curriculum in dance, theater, music, and visual art. Each art form has 3 units that teach the key art standards. The standards are vertically aligned, which means the skills students learn sequentially build upon those they learned in previous grades.

Thanks to funding from sponsors, such as Boeing, the supplies needed to teach the curriculum were given to teachers at no cost to OCEAA. OCEAA had a handful of teachers that went to professional development trainings to learn how to write curriculum. Then, they were invited to write the curriculum, and teach it to other educators, so it can be implemented throughout Orange County.

The following past and current OCEAA staff members contributed to the creation and implementation of the curriculum:
Hester "Fritz" Petropoulos - Music
Tania Hernandez - Music
Krista Ratnaweera - Dance
Meg Teran - Dance

This curriculum is setting a presidence in the filed of arts education on a state and national level, because most schools lack an arts curriculum, especially at the elementary and middle school levels.

Our students are benefiting from this curriculum. A special thanks to Jim Thomas and Helena Hanna for supporting OCEAA in the implementation of this curriculum!
