  • Will the fifth grade trip next week be canceled?

Sadly, the 5th grade trip is cancelled and we hope we can reschedule! If not, donations can be refunded.

  • Will after school program (KEDS) be suspended since it is outside the regular school mandated hours?

KEDS will continue.

  • Will the salad and fruit bars be closed as a precaution?

Our Nutritional Services department gets daily updates from the state and federal agencies that fund our food program, and no changes to service have been recommended.

  • Will the kids be having lunch in the class room instead of the cafeteria?

1st-8th grade students will continue to have breakfast and lunch in the dining hall at the main building.

  • How soon is the contingency plan being announced?

We are aiming to have instructional materials for home use ready by mid-week if needed.

  • Is OCEAA planning on having kids stay home as of mid next week/early next week?

No, at this time, there is no recommendation from health care agencies for closing our school. OCEAA will remain open with the restrictions on non-essential activities, as long as health care agency guidelines make that possible. That said, we are preparing materials in order to be ready should a future closure be required.

  • Are all the surfaces being wiped down with disinfectant not just cloth with water?

We have a morning and evening crew. We also purchased new technology that has industrial grade tablets that will last us at least a year.

  • Are students being sent home only if they have a fever?

They could have fever, congestion, it could be a lot of different things.

  • Is there a possibility the school will shut down if a student or staff member has the virus?

Yes – confirmed cases would trigger communication between school and health agencies for that type of action.

  • Is there anyway we can put portable hand washing stations at the entrances before anyone comes into the school. Not sure if that’s a possibility.

We do have hand washing stations throughout the school.

  • If SAUSD closes, would we close as well?

We do not have to do this.

  • If the closure happens, will the last day of school change to make up for the lessons lost?

If we close as directive, then we wouldn’t have to make up those days because of the emergency application system.

  • Sometimes kids will have a cough, a slight fever and minor nasal congestion. The doctors don’t want to justify the visit because it is recommended that parents wait three days until you go into the doctor’s office. What can we do as parents?

Keep your child at home. We are not worried about having a doctor’s note. We just want you to take care of your child. They’ll be marked down as sick.

  • What is the school doing so that the absences don’t count towards the student’s record?

There is no punishment for a child being marked absent. If you call us in because your child is sick, then they will be marked down as ill.

  • If we close the school, how will that affect the deadlines for the Biliteracy awards? We have until March 27th to complete the reading log. The kids need to take tests on the reading. Will we have access to the testing or will this be postponed?

That is a county call. We are hoping they’ll grant some leniency.

  • How long are parents allowed to take off with the home study packages?

We are asking for patience. Rather than prepare individual packages, we are preparing a home study plan for all students because we might be getting direction to close the school. We are hoping to have them ready by mid week. As soon as they are ready to go out we’ll share with parents.

We can also link to activities and resources. We’ll use our social media outlets for ideas on how to keep studies. We’re thinking about a two week home study routine.

  • Kids with health issues, should stay home?

Yes, it is the parent’s decision.

  • Are children being allowed access to hand sanitizer or at least 30 seconds to wash their hands thoroughly?

We have hand sanitizers throughout the campus, even before this happened. We are asking parents to help us teach the children to wash and sanitize their hands.

  • During the rainy weather and during this COVID-19 virus – can the students remain in their classroom instead of the dance room in order to promote social distancing?

As much as possible, it just comes down to staff. Staff have required breaks and it depends on staffing. Regardless of the health issues, we do try to give students distance and space.

We’ve tried to take the largest lunch groups and see if we can make them into smaller groups.

  • How can we make sure that funding is not reduced to OCEAA if attendance drops.

That is beyond our control. We’ll have to rely on smart decision from the state. This would also lead us into emergency relief process.

  • What are we communicating to children about this virus news?

Most teachers are spending time during crew for students to express their fears and dispel myths.

No, en este momento, no hay recomendaciones de agencias de atención médica para cerrar nuestra escuela.   • A veces los niños empiezan con tos, un poco de calentura y un poco de secreción nasal y los doctores no te quieren dar un justificante porque siempre te dicen espere tres días y si no se le quita lo trae. ¿En este caso que podemos hacer como papas?
