OCEAA recognizes the vital role of technology as a tool for reaching academic achievement goals and preparing all students for high school and beyond. Our primary goal is for our students to process and communicate information through technology.

Students access a variety of applications on Mac laptops, iPads and ChromeBooks to become highly proficient in using technology to build and showcase content knowledge.

Technology at OCEAA

Orange County Educational Arts Academy (OCEAA) offers students a two-way bilingual education in English and Spanish to approximately 600 students from transitional kindergarten to eighth grade. We follow a 90:10 model and have an institutional focus on the arts, including music, dance, theater and visual arts.

We have approximately 100 iPads and about 275 Chromebooks distributed in the following manner:

  • Our 2 transitional kindergarten classes and 4 kindergarten classes share a cart of iPads.
  • Our 4 first grade classes share 2 carts of iPads.
  • Our 4 second grade classes share 1 cart of Chromebooks.
  • Our 3 third grade classes share 1 cart of Chromebooks.
  • Our 2 fifth grade classes share 1 cart of Chromebooks.
  • Each of our 6 middle school homerooms (6th-8th grades) houses a cart of Chromebooks.

Additionally, we have a Computer Lab of 30 Mac Mini computers which teachers can visit based on a “first come, first served” basis, and some teachers have 2-3 desktop computers in their classrooms.

Our Instructional Technology Coordinator is working to develop a vertically-aligned curriculum guided by OCEAA’s Digital Literacy Standards (based on the work of the Long Beach Unified School District and the Fresno County Office of Education) and by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Students. These standards incorporate both digital literacy (word processing, effective Internet searches, and the like) and digital citizenship (protecting one’s identify online, how to prevent cyberbullying, citing intellectual property, and the like).
