OCEAA offers many different opportunities for our students to be involved outside of the classroom. Moreover, some students also have the option of competing within the Santa Ana district – like our Speech and Debate team did last week at Santa Ana High School.
On Friday, January 24th, OCEAA fourth and fifth grade students attended the Santa Ana Unified Mardi Gras Speech and Debate Tournament.
At this tournament, students had to memorize a three to five minute story, poem, speech and/or script, participating in up to two of the following events: Storytelling, Spanish Poetry, English Poetry, Declamation, Original Oratory, Informational and Prose.
OCEAA received a total of 30 individual accolades!!! The students also took the first, second and/or third place medals in EVERY single category.
As for our overall school placement, for the first time EVER, OCEAA beat out the number one ranked Santa Unified School District school and finished in FIRST PLACE at the Santa Ana Unified Mardi Gras Speech and Debate tournament!!! Their hard work really paid off! Congratulations!
All of this wouldn’t be possible without our amazing coaches, Ms. Arce, Ms. Reyes and Ms. McFarlin. Thank you so much to them for their tireless work and commitment!
